      Evelyn Zalman

She has fought the good fight, She has finished the race, She kept the faith. 2nd Timothy 4:7 Evelyn Zalman, affectionately known to her family as Memaw, passed away August 20, 2011 in Lubbock at the age of 87.

She was born Evelyn Isabella Roemisch on March 4, 1924 in Hermleigh, Texas to John Albert and Mary (Kuss) Roemisch. After WWII, on January 8, 1946 she married her childhood sweetheart, John Zalman Jr. at St. John's Catholic Church in Hermleigh. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they farmed around the Scurry County area until 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Snyder, Texas.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, John Zalman, Jr.; son, John Zalman III and wife, Donna of Hermleigh; daughter, Barbara Bulen and husband, James of Lubbock; siblings, Jimmy Roemisch, Annie Nora McCracken, Dorothy Krejci, Lorene Warneke, and Viola Creswell; and many nieces and nephews.

Memaw's love and generosity (and her homemade ice cream, sauerkraut and dumplings) will be deeply missed by 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August, 24, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church with the Reverend John Chero officiating. Interment will follow at the Hermleigh Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church or to Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
