      Esther Ann (Trcalek) Zavodny, surrounded by her family, left her earthly home to enter her heavenly home Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Burleson St. Joseph Manor. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, at Phillip & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, with the Reverend David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the New Tabor Cemetery.

      Esther was born March 4, 1927, in the New Tabor Community to B.K. & Anna Vavra Trcalek. She was baptized and confirmed at the New Tabor Brethren Church where she remained faithful until her death. Esther attended grades 1 through 8 at the New Tabor School and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1944, where her favorite subject was history. She met her soul mate George Zavodny, while attending New Tabor School. They later married on December 27, 1947, after George returned from World War II and they enjoyed 43 years together.

      During her lifetime, she worked at Keller Chair Factory, Hus School Encampment and as an SPJST Insurance Agent. The greatest joys of her life were her family. Esther was very proud of her Czech heritage and continued to speak the Czech language fluently until she died. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her poppy seed rolls, gardening, playing dominoes, dancing, polka music, watching movies and in her later years, looked forward to her monthly senior days at church. Esther truly exemplified the love of Christ by loving everyone and sharing her kindness.

      Esther was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ben F. Trcalek and Willie H. Trcalek.

      She is survived by her children, George "Butch" Zavodny, Jr., Dorothy Zavodny, Beatrice Landolt & husband, John Landolt, Jr., Patricia Story & husband, James Story; grandchildren, Brayla & Randy Leighton, Chris & Dawn Story, John & Tracey Landolt, Cheryl & Paul Castaneda; step-grandchildren, Danette & John Fatheree, Tina & Cody Finch, Cristi & Cory Flencher; great-grandchildren, Trey Groce, Blane Castaneda, JaeLee Landolt and one great-grandson on the way; step-great-grandchildren, Kandace & Clayton Castaneda, Kayla Wadlington, Zachary Fatheree, Issac, Olivia & Gabriella Finch, Mia & Levi Flencher, and one step-great-great-grandchild, Eva Grace Vences. Esther. She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys Hejl, Ethel Zavodny, Franklin & Gladys Zavodny, Johnny & Betty Zavodny; God-children, Reba Mantey and John Vavra; and numerous special cousins, nieces and nephews.

      Pallbearers will be Chris Story, John Landolt, III, Randy Leighton, Paul Castaneda, Trey Groce, John Fatheree, Cody Finch, and Cory Flencher. Honorary Pallbearers include Blane Castaneda, JaeLee Landolt, Armando Reyes, Keith Landolt, and Jo Avanda Smith.

      The family would like to convey their thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Bryan and Caldwell St. Joseph Health Centers, Burleson St. Joseph Manor, and her Choice Home Health Caregivers.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to New Tabor Brethren Church, P.O. Box 262, Caldwell, TX 77836; New Tabor Cemetery Association, 5060 CR 225, Caldwell, TX 77836; or the charity of your choice.
