obit: Bessie Zubik Moore Atkins
Memorial Service for Bessie Moore Atkins, 90, of Richmond, TX, will be held 10 AM Saturday, February 25, 2012, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Richmond, TX, with Rev. Eric Ryburn officiating.
Bessie Zubik was born to Joseph Zubik and Anna Kovar Zubik on August 23, 1921, in Fort Bend County, TX. She died February 22, 2012, in Rosenberg, TX. Mrs. Atkins was very active in her church and community, being a longtime member of the church, member of the sanctuary choir and volunteer of St. John's United Methodist Church in Richmond. She was a charter life member of Polly Ryon Hospital Auxillary, where she volunteered as one of the "Pink Ladies", and a member of the Fort Bend Museum. Bessie set up an Endowment Scholarship Fund at Texas A & M University in the name of James R. Atkins, Class of 1934. She enjoyed gardening and she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends; but most importantly, she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond E. Moore, Jr; second husband, James Roy Atkins; son, Raymond E. Moore III; brothers, Antone, Joe, Ernest, Johnny, Albert (Al), Robert (Bob), and Ed Zubik; and sisters, Lillian Brobst and Ann Rawls.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Moore Borowski and husband, Mike; granddaughter, Brenda Martin Haas and husband, Doug; grandson, Ray Moore IV; great granddaughter, Stephanie Moore; stepdaughter, Jan Folmar; stepson, Bobby Atkins; niece, Barbara Raney and husband, Jerry; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
