San Antonio, TX - Albert Zaruba, 76, of San Antonio passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
Born in Dayton, TX on December 17, 1934 to parents Frank "Lucky" Zaruba and Mary Silhavey Zaruba. Al served honorably in the Air Force from 1953-1957 in various locations as a radio operator. He lived in Orange, TX, and operated Al's Grocery from 1966 to 1984. He has also resided in Dayton, Liberty, Batson, Crystal Beach, TX , and Littleton, CO. He had a keen sense of humor and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank and mother Mary, and sister Rosemary Carouthers.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Martha Jane Zaruba of San Antonio, TX; sons Stephen Zaruba and wife Gail of Katy, TX and Robin Zaruba and wife Danielle of Kingwood, TX; stepsons Mike Hammond and wife Becky of Katy, TX and Bruce Hammond and wife Karen of San Antonio, TX; stepdaughter Rhonda Shelton King and husband Barry of San Antonio, TX; brothers Frank "Bo" Zaruba, Jr. and Johnny Zaruba; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Community Church in Orange, TX on Wednesday, July 13 at 3pm with visitation at 2pm.
Funeral services for Albert Zaruba, 85, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Christ Church with the Rev. Dan Schiel officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will follow at Conroe Memorial Park under the direction of Conroe Funeral Directors.
Mr. Zaruba was born on October 8, 1929 in Dayton, Texas to Charlie & Rosie Zaruba and passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Conroe, Texas.
Mr. Zaruba was a lifelong accomplished musician who played music by ear and loved to entertain and teach others. For many years, he played joyfully at Christ Church in Conroe. Al was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved his family and was a dear friend to many. He married the love of his life on March 12, 1954 and they've been happily married for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Ripkowski and Carolyn Cox and his brother, Charlie Zaruba, Jr. Al is survived by his loving family: Wife, Jerry Zaruba; son and daughter-in-law, Keith & Trudy Zaruba; daughters and sons-in-law in law, Vicki & Jimmy Burleigh and Twyla & Wayne Gentles; grandchildren, Rusty Burleigh, Rachel Shaw & husband John, Jason Zaruba & wife Nicole, Christine Armstrong & husband Ryan, Cameron Gentles & Jaclyn Johnson, Tyler Gentles & wife Jill and Cooper Gentles; Seven great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Burleigh, Jared Shaw, Brendan Shaw, Adrianna Burleigh, Landon Zaruba, Braden Zaruba and Savannah Zaruba and also numerous other dear relatives and friends. Pallbearers: Rusty Burleigh, Cameron Gentles, Tyler Gentles, Cooper Gentles, Jason Zaruba and John Shaw.
