Anna Smetana, 96, of Westphalia, died Friday, April 19, 2013, in a Temple hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia with Msgr. Elmer Holtman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia. Visitation will be 6 p.m. Saturday with a Rosary at 8 p.m. at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
Mrs. Smetana was born June 15, 1916, in Westphalia, to Henry and Rose Mees Kaiser. She lived in the Westphalia community her entire life. She attended Westphalia schools and married Adolph Smetana on March 10, 1935. Anna worked as a seamstress for Wood Manufacturing in Temple. She was also a quilter famous for her tiny stitching. Anna was a lifelong member of the Church of the Visitation and the alter society.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sons, Donald Smetana and Ray Allan Smetana.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Smetana and wife, Carol, and Ron Smetana and wife, Diana; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Westphalia St. Michael's Building Fund or the charity of choice.
