Funeral services for Melvin Otto Hedt, 81, of Needville, TX are set for 10 AM Monday, June 7, 2010, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 9018 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461, with Rev. Fred Banda officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rosenberg, TX.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Sunday at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street, Needville, TX 77461.
Serving as Pallbearers will be W. Lee Hedt, Bobby Veselka, Richard Davis, Phillip Havens, C.D. Kalinowski, Buck Kalinowski, Neal Kalinowski, Freddie Walker, and Marvin Wayne Hedt. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Hedt was born June 25, 1928, in Needville, TX, to Otto Hedt and Charlotte Schwettmann Hedt. He died June 3, 2010, in Needville, TX. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 350 in Needville. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville, and a member of the Sons of Hermann. For much of his life, he was employed by Fort Bend County. He will be lovingly remembered as father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 39 years, Bernice Veselka Hedt; two brothers, Raymond Hedt and Gilbert (Pete) Hedt; and grandson, Matthew Geistmann.
He is survived by 5 children, Patricia Geistmann and husband, Glenn, of Fayetteville, TX, Melvin Wayne Hedt and wife, Tammy, of Columbus, TX, Lois Krause and husband, Walt, of Damon, TX, Ray Hedt and wife, Cynthia, of Boling, TX, and Jeffery Hedt of Snyder, TX; 12 grandchildren, Cortney Roubion and husband, Robert, Tyler Hedt, Jared Hedt, Shelby Krause, Madison Krause, Mason Krause, Melissa Keyes and husband, Blake, Dawnette Kocian, Sierra Hedt, Ashlyn Hedt, Trisha Hedt, and Tayler Hedt; 8 great grandchildren, Ryan and Weston Roubion, Riley Yackel, Levi Guitierrez, Kylie and Kendal Vega, Karris Keyes, and Brayden Kocian; brother, Marvin Hedt and wife, Mildred of Sugar Land, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, and special friend, Dorothy Lipinski.
