Funeral services for Mrs. Mary A. Vacek, 88, mother of Mrs. Lillian Boettcher, were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, from Hubbard Funeral Chapel with continued services at St. John Catholic Church, St. John community.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Rev. Benton Thurmond officiated.

Mrs. Vacek, a resident of Parkview Manor, died there at 2:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

A milliner for more than 30 years, Mrs. Vacek was a native of the St. John community, born January 15, 1886, the daughter of Valentin and Johanna Sedlacek Mladenka.  She was married to Emil Vacek, who preceded her in death many years ago.

She purchased Mrs. Josephine Richter’s hat shop on Lyons Avenue in Schulenburg before World War I and made many hats for ladies in this area.  In about 1928 she opened a hat shop in the Guntyer Hotel in San Antonio, retiring in the early 1950s.  After that, at her home, she designed and sewed wedding gowns.  She moved to Parkview in July 1969.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Siemers of Kerrville and Mrs. Lillian Boettcher of Weimar; two grandsons, J. C. Moroney of San Antonio and John Boettcher of Pasadena; two great-grandchildren, Steve and Lisa Boettcher of Pasadena; and one brother, Emil Mladenka of Engle.  Two sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were Emanuel Mladenka of Schulenburg, O. L. Parks of Seguin, Gene Vacek, Tommy Brasher, John Miksch, M. K. Merrem, Walter Scott and Jack Montgomery of Weimar.
