obit: Richard Jalowy - mom Kubena
Richard Jalowy, 87, of East Bernard, Texas passed away on March 24, 2013 at his residence in East Bernard. He was born in East Bernard on February 5, 1926 to Joe and Mary (Kubena) Jalowy.
Richard retired after 30 years of employment with Wharton County Precinct 2, beginning as a gradall operator, working with heavy equipment, and working his way up to foreman where he served for the last 13 years of his employment.
Richard served in the Navy during World War II and saw heavy action during the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the South Pacific. Remembering the Japanese suicide planes, he recalls them as "a ball of fire" coming down out of the sky. In Okinawa Bay he saw the battleship Missouri, where the peace treaty was signed.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 226 of East Bernard, Texas.
After returning home, Richard married Mildred Jurasek in 1948. He is survived by his wife Mildred, sons Richard Layne Jalowy of El Campo, Texas, David Wayne Jalowy and wife Louise of Needville, Texas and Christopher Scott Jalowy of East Bernard, Texas. Two sisters Georgie Sliva and husband Roman of East Bernard, and Josie Dusek and husband Jerome of El Campo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
