FRANK STEPHEN GARVEL
CORPUS CHRISTI - Frank Stephen Garvel, 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 8, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 25, 1933 to Peter Robert Garvel and Cecilia Frysak Garvel
Born and raised in Inez, Texas and a member of the Catholic faith, Frank enjoyed sports, hunting, and being outdoors, something he passed on to his 3 boys.
He graduated from Industrial High School in 1952 where he was a member of the Industrial Cobra State Quarter-Final Champions. He later joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1961.
Frank was a veteran electrician for many years, and he worked for several different companies throughout his life. He retired from the electrical profession and the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. This gave him the opportunity to spend more time with family and friends. After his retirement, he found great joy in volunteering as a tutor for The St. Henry de Osso Family Project in Uvalde, Texas. Whether living in Inez, McAllen, Brownsville, Uvalde, Austin, or Corpus Christi, or even traveling to Minnesota, he never met a stranger and was always ready to visit and share a story while having a cup of coffee.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patsy Nelson Garvel of Corpus Christi, his sons Michael Garvel and wife Audra of Victoria, Darrel Garvel and wife Rebekah of East Bernard, and Kevin Garvel of Inez. His step-children Teri Nelson Zepeda and husband Zee of Corpus Christi, Bobby Nelson and wife Mechele of Uvalde, Richelle Nelson of Austin, and Tracy Nelson Hopper and husband Jeff of Uvalde. His grandchildren Jackson and Justiss Garvel, Kindra Zepeda Rodriguez and husband Carlos, Jennifer, Cheyenne, and Bobby Nelson, and Brittany and Jeffrey Hopper. Great-grandchildren Halo and Aiden Sanchez.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Alodia Garvel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 P.M., Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Nuevo Café, 1124 Ayers St., Corpus Christi, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice of Corpus Christi 5350 S. Staples St. Suite 400, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411 or donor's choice.
