      November 30, 1930 - March 10, 2013

       

      Jean "Ma" Waddell Batla, 82, of Bernardo, Texas passed away on March 10, 2013 in Sealy, Texas. She was born on November 30, 1930 to John Jack Waddell, Sr. and Bertha Omelia (Riddle) Waddell in Eagle Lake, Texas. Jean was a former bookkeeper for the First State Bank of Columbus, and also a rancher and homemaker for . On November 24, 1954 she married Johnny Alvy Batla.

       

      She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus and a retired member of Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

       

      Jean is survived by her daughter, Maridee Corley and husband William of Bernardo, TX; son, John Dudley Batla of Columbus, TX; sister, Beulah Lundquist of Rocky Ford, CO; grandchildren, Samantha Cater and husband Russell of Conroe, TX, James Jordan and wife Amanda of Columbus, TX, Natalie Wright and husband J.W. of Columbus, TX, and Tracie Lezak of Sugar Land, TX; and 11 great grandchildren, Jakelyn Renee, Levi, Seth, Anson Bean, Bodie Layne, Corbin, Kylee, Tyler, Mason, James, and McKinley.

       

      She was preceded in death by husband, Johnny Alvy Batla, parents, John Jack Waddel,l Sr. and Bertha Omelia (Riddle) Waddell, sister, Bertha Waligura, and brothers, Tom Waddell, Donald Waddell, John Jack Waddell, Jr., and Harry Waddell.

       

      Visitation will be Monday, March 11, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, TX.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, 10:00 am at Henneke Funeral Home with Rev. John Jones officiating.  Burial will take place in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers are Joe Waligura, Craig Waligura, Russell Cater, James Stock, Justin Kennedy and Jody Polk. Honorary pallbearers are Howard Plengemeyer, Dennis Boatwright and Stephen Mahalitc.

       

      Memorials are suggested to the Bernardo Volunteer Fire Dept. Memorial Fund, 2845 FM 949, Cat Spring, TX 78933.
