      Czechs to celebrate heritage

By ROBERT B. HENDERSON, Houston Chronicle correspondent

The Fort Bend County Czech Alliance will celebrate the music and
culture of Czechoslovakians April 7 at "Cesky Den" or Czech Day.

The fund-raiser includes food and dancing and will be held from 2-11
p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Texas 36, adjacent to the Fort
      Bend County Fairgrounds in Rosenberg.

The event is themed, "A Musical Celebration of Czech Heritage and
Culture." Volunteers of the Czech Heritage Society of Fort Bend
County will help out with the event.

About 25 years ago the Rosenberg-Richmond Chamber of Commerce started
the Fort Bend County Czech Fest. Pat Parma, president of the Fort
Bend County Czech Alliance, said her group took on the activity about
      six years ago.

"This year we decided to do a one-day celebration of the music and
not do the three-day festival," Parma said. "At some point it may
      come back again."

Music will be the focus of the day, with the doors opening at 1 p.m.
The Dujka (pronounced DOY-ka) Brothers Band Doors, will begin the
show at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. the Bobby Jones Czech Band will take the
stage until 11 p.m. Parma said the bands will play mostly traditional
Czech polkas and waltzes, and there will also be country and modern
      music.

A meal of roast pork, with potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut and other
traditional Czech dishes will be served at 6 p.m. Known as the "Czech
Prepared," the feast will be catered by Ed Cernoch.

Advance tickets for the dance and the meal are $13. Advance tickets
for the dance only are $6 per person. Meal and dance tickets are $14
at the door. Children under 12 years old are admitted free. For more
