Nancy Ellen Telchik Edwards, 72, of Abilene, Texas, passed peacefully away April 26, 2011, after a long fight with cancer.

Nancy was born to the late Oscar and Beulah Telchik, January 2, 1939, in a dugout in Lamb County, Texas. She graduated from Borden County High School in 1957 and enrolled in Abilene Christian College. She married the love of her life, Jarrell Edwards in 1960, and they did mission work in Brazil for three years before returning to cotton farming in Borden County in 1972. They have resided in Abilene since 1992.

Nancy was an active, faithful member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She loved the Lord with all her heart and looked forward to the day she would rejoice in Heaven with Him. During her life, Nancy excelled at many things. She was a talented artist, potter, seamstress and cook. She loved traveling the world with her husband. Nancy was also very proud of her German heritage and looked forward to family reunions both here and in Germany. Nancy had a passion for family and friends and enjoyed opening her home for entertaining and fellowship. She was a strong Christian woman, devoted wife, loving mother and a doting grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Jarrell; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Ed Emerson, and her grandchildren, Eric and Katie Emerson and J'Lyn Emerson, all of Abilene; and one sister, Daphene Minter of Lubbock, Texas, along with many other extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gail Cemetery in Borden County, Texas. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to Global Samaritan, P.O. Box 3431, Abilene, Texas 79604; American Cancer Society, 209 So. Danville, Bldg. B, Suite 107, Abilene, TX 79605; or a favorite charity.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Melnyk, his staff and Hendrick Hospice Care.
