obit: Alvin "Binky" Makovy Sr.
Alvin "Binky" Makovy Sr., 93, of Waco, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013. Service will be a graveside service on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco, with Tom Bedichek officiating. Open visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr.
Alvin was born in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1939. He went on to play football at Chanute College in Kansas before enlisting in the Army. He served four years honorably during World War II. After his military service, he continued his education at University of Houston where he had ambitions of being a football coach.
On Sept. 8, 1947, he married Katherine Merle McCune of Waco. For 30 years he was employed by the Glass Plant. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David Dwayne Makovy and Alvin "Binky" Makovy Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Merle; and three grandchildren, Brandon Alan Makovy of Katy, Douglas Brian Makovy of Blanchard, Okla., and Allison Marie Noles and husband, Jerry, of Blanchard, Okla.; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Henry Makovy; and sister, Mary Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the 16th and Columbus Ave. Church of Christ in Waco.
