obit: Vernon E. Skrabanek
Vernon E. Skrabanek, 92, went home early Thursday morning, February 25, 2010.
He was born in Crosby, Texas on February 2, 1918, the fourth child of Frank and Frances Skrabanek. He grew up in Crosby, Texas, graduating as valedictorian of Crosby High School in 1936. During World War II, he proudly served in the 493rd Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, stationed in Debach, England. After the war, he married Alice Hazel Von Roeder, and they had five children. Vernon served in various civic roles, notably a manager of a Little League Team. He enjoyed dominoes, his dogs, and watching his grandchildren play ball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond and Victor, and sister, Elsie.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice; son Kenneth Skrabanek; son Donald Skrabanek and wife, Anne Souby; son Mike Skrabanek and wife, Brenda; son Jim Skrabanek and wife, Mary; and daughter Kay and husband, Kent Corrigan; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vernon was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He will be missed.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 5-8PM at Sterling-White Funeral Home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, TX 77562.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 10AM at Sterling-White Funeral Home; followed by burial at Sterling-White Cemetery.
