Roy Edward Simank
Roy Edward Simank, at the age of 92, went to join his Lord on January 10, 2013 after a short illness. Roy was born in Thorndale, Texas on January 4, 1921 to Emmanuel and Pauline Moerbe Simank. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Thorndale. He met the love of his life, Adele Meschke of Paige, and marries her on June 8, 1941 at Ebenezer Lutheran church of Manheim, Texas. When his country needed him he joined the US Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, they settled in Austin where he worked as a mechanic at Swearingen Armstrong Ford. A few years later he opened his own business, Austin Frame and Wheel Service, which he owned and ran until his retirement.
During his life he was an active member and Elder of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin. He also held many positions in numerous organizations, including Walnut Creek Optimist Club, Sons of Herman, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8787 and SPJST. In their spare time, he and Adele enjoyed Ballroom, Country and Western and Square Dancing. They spend numerous hours in their vegetable garden and playing dominoes and 42 with family and friends. In retirement they enjoyed traveling and spending their days together.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Adele and brother Lesley Simank of Bishop.
He is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Wuensche of Lubbock and Bernice Kieschnick of Waco, one daughter, Gwen and husband Gary Currier of Austin, granddaughter, Ashley Currier of Marietta, Georgia, grandson Adam and wife Melissa Currier of Houston and two great-granddaughters whom he adored, Olivia and Adele Currier of Houston.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family, Saturday, the 12th of January, from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3407 Red River Road, Austin, Texas, on Sunday, the 13th of January, at half past 2 o'clock in the afternoon, with the interment immediately following at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
