obit: Patsy Marie Pelzel Schwertner
BALLINGER — Patsy Marie Schwertner, 54, of Rowena, Texas, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, after a courageous, inspiring battle with cancer.
Patsy was born Sept. 22, 1952, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Calvin and Mary Ann Braden Pelzel. She married Larry Schwertner on Jan. 22, 1972, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Texas. She was employed at First National Bank of Ballinger and was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rowena. Her many and various activities included Emmaus Community, Altar Society, Morning Glories Bible Study, St. Joseph Bible Study, Beth Moore Bible Study, Garden Club, Extension Homemakers and Aggie Moms. First and foremost, Patsy was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a true and faithful friend with an ever-present, contagious smile.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Pelzel Lange; and an infant daughter, Roxanne Elizabeth Schwertner.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Larry Schwertner; by her parents, Calvin and Mary Ann Pelzel of Wall; by two daughters, Heather Hendrikson and her husband, Brett, of Flower Mound, and Tamra Schwertner of College Station; by her son, Lance Schwertner of Houston; and by a grandson, Gavin Hendrikson of Flower Mound. Also surviving is her brother, Steve Pelzel, and his wife, Debbie, of Garden City; her sister, Monica Noland, and her husband, Kevin, of Wall; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ty Lange, and his wife, Kori, and their son, Bryson. Family members and many special friends will cherish her memory, especially Sandy Pelzel, Buffie Awtry, Myrtie Bales, Amy Newman and Roxanne Phillips.
Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Bhaskar Morugudi and the Rev. Hubert Wade co-celebrating. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews Colby Pelzel, T. J. Pelzel, Reagan Noland, Marshall Godwin, Mason Godwin, Adam Frerich, Cody Sturm and Wesley Haigood. Honorary pallbearers will be Heidi Haigood, Ashlee Noland and Abbey Noland. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lange Funeral Home.
The family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the St. Joseph Special Project Fund or to a favorite charity.
