      John Peter Sedlacek

       

      John Peter Sedlacek, age 53, of Austin passed away peacefully at Christopher House in Austin on January 2, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in Austin with the Rev. Michael D. Couhig C.S. C. and Deacon Dan Pearson officiating. Burial in McAllen, Texas will be held at a later date.

       

      He was born on April 17, 1959 in Edinburg, Texas to John and Shirley Sedlacek. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ovide and Lena Courtemanche, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Ande and Mary Sedlacek; and Uncle Joseph and Aunt Cecelia Sedlacek.

       

      He is survived by his parents of McAllen, Texas; sisters, Carol Sedlacek of Belton, Texas and Caren Sedlacek of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; his aunts and uncles, Dorothy and Lamar Haffner of Rhode Island, Carol and Adelard Mannis of Rhode Island, Alice and Ovide Courtemanche, Jr. of Rhode Island; his Great-Uncle George Dalessio; and numerous cousins and friends.

       

      John graduated from Sharyland High School in 1977 in Mission, Texas. He then attended St. Edwards University in Austin from 1977 through 1981. His community involvement included officiating high school basketball games for the Austin Basketball Official Association chapter for the past 20 years as well as wheelchair basketball games. He was a lector and usher in his church. John worked at Velocity Credit Union for 20 years. He was a valued and exemplary employee that will be greatly missed. John's passions included Notre Dame Football and Astros Baseball teams. He loved collecting baseball cards.

       

      The family appreciates all of the prayers and expressions of love which have been extended to them. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Velocity Credit Union family for all their care and support and to the staff and nurses of Christopher House who took great care of him during his short stay there.
