obit: Emma Raska Korbell
Emma Raska Korbell passed away on Monday, August 6th at the age of 93.
She was born on June 6, 1919 in Floresville, Texas, the daughter of John and Emma Raska. She was raised on a family farm with five brothers and sisters, where a strong belief in God, hard work, traditional family values and close community were always important in her life. Emma graduated from Floresville High School in 1937. After her marriage in 1939 to Charles Korbell, also from Floresville, and the birth of their four children, the family moved to Hondo where she was active in the church and community for twelve years prior to relocating to San Antonio.
Emma was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Emma's life was devoted to God, her family, church and friends. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (KJZT) and the Altar Society, and was active at St. Mary Magdalen's Catholic Church for forty years.
Caring for her family and serving the church were closest to her heart and she believed her children were a special gift from God. Her eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren were very special to her and she always loved spending time with them. Times when her family gathered together at her home brought her special joy. Emma enjoyed watercolor painting, playing cards, sewing, quilting, fishing, cooking, and she loved to dance.
Her family includes her husband of 65 years, Charles Korbell, Sr. (deceased); son, John Korbell and his wife Bonnie; son, Wayne Korbell (deceased) and his wife, Gayle; daughter Sharon Kidd and her husband Mike; and Charles Korbell, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl; grandchildren: Katherine Brown, Caroline Carrington, Jay Korbell; Brook Clark, Emily Beard, Danna Korbell; Michael and Sean Kidd; Allison Aderholt, Brian Korbell, Jennifer Charbonneau; and twelve great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all of those who knew her, but especially by her family whose lives she touches through love, care and instilling family values and God's love in each of us.
The family would like to offer a special thank you for all the care, love and support provided by the staff at Emeritus Lincoln Heights, and especially to Maria Rios, her private caregiver. We thank all of her dear friends who were like family to her and who brought so much joy into her life, especially in later years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9th from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
