obit: Eugene M. "Gene" Schiller
Eugene M. (Gene) Schiller, born September 14, 1922 in Bell County, Texas, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning February 19, 2011 at the age of eighty-eight.
He is survived by Evelyn (Coufal) Schiller, his beloved wife of 59 years and three children: daughter Lynda Gilbert; son Bill Schiller and his wife Susan; son Michael Schiller, all of San Antonio. Also survived by nine grandchildren: Jennifer Pacheco, Brian Gilbert, Christy Overstreet and her husband Kameron, Adam Schiller and his wife Jessica, Amanda Schiller, Tyler Schiller, Kelsey Schiller, Dustin Schiller, and Logan Schiller, and five great-grandchildren: Alyssa Pacheco, Kaylee Waters, Kate, Kara, and Colin Overstreet. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and by brother-in-law David Coufal and his wife Jean, and sister-in-law Juanita Coufal, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Will T. and Rosie Schiller; brother Leslie Schiller and his wife Helen; and sister Irene McClain and her husband Temple, and brother-in-law Gene Coufal.
As a young man Gene enlisted and served in the Army Air Forces during WWII. After his service he spent over 40 years in aviation as a licensed A&P mechanic and spent most of his career in San Antonio with Alamo Aviation, TexSun Beechcraft, and Chaparral Beechcraft. Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His love for Christ was evident in his service and devotion to their church, Pilgrim Presbyterian, where he held many church offices during his 55 year membership.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM, Monday February 21, 2011at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Services, will be 3 PM, Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment directly following the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Rev. David Roach officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, 1846 Basse Rd. , San Antonio, Texas 78213 or a charity of choice.
