SAN ANGELO Alvin John Sefcik, longtime resident of Vancourt and the surrounding West Texas area, was called home by his heavenly Father on Thursday, March 24, 2011. Alvin proudly served those around him as a leader in the community. He served many roles in life as the owner of a cotton gin, cotton buyer and served on the Federal Land Bank board of directors. He was involved in helping other farmers establish an agricultural tractor and implement company in San Angelo to serve the needs of local farmers. As a devout Christian and leader of his church and community he developed many relationships across the San Angelo community.

Born on May 26, 1917, in Fairchild, Texas, Alvin was the son of John and Antonia Sefcik and brother to Wilma and Leroy Sefcik. Both have previously joined their heavenly Father. Alvin was married to Leona Ann Schkade on Oct. 8, 1940, in Eola, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1996.

Survivors include his sons, Alvin Wayne Sefcik and wife Sandra Kay and Glen Allen Sefcik, all of Austin; four grandchildren, Heather Diane Anderson and husband Zach and Michelle Denise Sefcik and husband Lance Farley, all of Austin, and Justin John Sefcik and wife Emily of Corpus Christi and Whitney Nicole Sefcik of Nacogdoches; three great-grandchildren, Grant Kalvin and Graham Adam Anderson of Austin and Lillian Jade Sefcik of Corpus Christi. He leaves behind his loving companion, Ida Walter, and her wonderful family that embraced him in their family as their own.

He will be remembered for his smile and total dedication to serving others. Visitation, with family present, will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, in Johnson's chapel with the Rev. Kurt Fangmeier and the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
