      Funeral services for Betty Lednicky Kaluza, 89, of East Bernard, were held  Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at 11 a.m. from Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Don Ruppert officiating.  Interment was at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard.

       

      Pallbearers serving were Chad Kovar, Nate Kovar, John Miles Kaluza, Nick Hagendorf, Clay Hagendorf, Andy Gertson and Will Wenmohs.

       

      Honrary pallbearers were her godsons Dean Pawelka, Jay Ermis and Gary Ermis.

       

      Scripture readings were given by her granddaughters Susan Gertson and Casie Wenmohs.  Offertory gift bearers were Mary Ann Kaluza, Jim Kovar and Barry Hagendorf.  The eulogy was compiled by Adette Kovar and presented by Mona Hagendorf.

       

      Born in Ammannsville, Mrs. Kaluza was the daughter of Albin Lednicky and Marie Cernosek Lednicky.  She was reared in Ammannsville and attended St. John the Baptist School.  The former Betty Lednicky married John V. Kaluza on May 31, 1943, with the ceremony held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ammannsville.  After a few years in Flatonia, she and her husband moved to East Bernard when they opened a Western Auto Store.  Mrs. Kaluza was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the East Bernard KJST [KJZT] and the American Legion Auxiliary in East Bernard.  She died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 in San Antonio.

       

      She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Adette and Jim Kovar of East Bernard and Mona and Barry Hageneorf of San Antonio; son, Rick Kaluza of Richmond; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Kaluza of Eagle Lake;  sisters, Helen Hajovsky and Henrietta Machac, both of Schulenburg; grandchildren, Susan Gertson, Casie Wenmohs, Chad Kovar, Nate Kovar, John Miles Kaluza, Nick Hagendorf, Clay Hagendorf, Danny Kaluza and Jonathan Kaluza; and seven great-grandchildren.

       

      Mrs. Kaluza was preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Marie Lednicky; husband, John V. Kaluza; sons, Johnny A. Kaluza and Frank R. Kaluza; brothers, Albert Lednicky and Jim Lednicky; and sister, Marcella Rainosek.

       

      Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in Wallis.
