Funeral services for George Rypple, 58, were held Friday morning, June 14, at Hubbard Funeral Home and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Albert Hubertus officiating.
Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Fellow veterans paid graveside tribute, presenting a US flag to the widow.
Mr. Rypple died Wednesday, June 12, in Veterans Administration Hospital at Houston, after a six-week illness.
A lifelong resident of the Weimar area, he served three years in the Air Force in World War II, two years and four months in the Philippine Islands with the 1055th Quartermaster Co.
Born Jan. 3, 1910, at Weimar, he was the son of Joseph and Sophie Dittrich Rypple. He married Miss Leona Briscoe here in 1945.
She survives, along with two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Martha) Mensik of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Debby at home; two sons, George Gene and Manuel, both of Weimar; his father, Joseph S. Rypple, Weimar; and stepmother, Mrs. Minnie Shimek Rypple, Weimar; and a sister, Mrs. Wm. (Bessie) Holub of Weimar. His mother died in 1942.
Pallbearers were his two nephews, Edwin and George Holub; Morris Janda, Henry Adamcik, Emil Neiser, and Henry Laqua. Mass servers were Mark Janda and Bobby Kana.
