Vernell Marie Novosad Perkins, age 59, of Garland, TX, while surrounded by family and friends was called to her maker on September 21st after a long, difficult battle against liver disease.
She was born June 24, 1953, in Houston, TX, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, attended Lee College and the University of Houston. Later in life, overcoming adversity, Vernell then strived to complete her certification in medical transcription from the Lighthouse of Houston for the Blind. She was a loyal and dependable transcriptionist for 10 years at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, efficiently typing out medical reports even when her disease progressed. Vernell was a faithful member of Springcreek Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Novosad.
Vernell is survived by her husband, Tom Perkins; mother, Lima Novosad; daughter, Roxie Brown and husband, Mike; son, Philip Perkins; grandchildren, Megan and Bret Brown; brothers, Eugene Novosad and wife, Charlotte and Steven Novosad and wife, Theresa; nieces, Teresa Lynn Novosad and Julie Belt and husband, Nick; nephew, Nathan Novosad; and numerous extended family members. Vernell was well-liked and admired by family and friends. Even in death she continues to help others by donating her body for medical research.
A memorial service will be held in Baytown at Navarre Funeral Home on Friday, September 28, 2012. Family will be accepting friends at 5 PM, and the memorial service will begin at 6 PM.
