      GOLIAD - Godfrey J. "Pete" Petru, 86, of Goliad, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011.

       

      He was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Corpus Christi to the late Edward and Angelina Motal Petru. He served in the 106th Army Air Force Base Unit from Feb. 1, 1944 to April 29, 1946. He was employed at Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline from 1953 until his retirement in 1985.

       

      He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Petru of Goliad; son, Wayne Petru of Schroeder; daughters, Janet Petru and Carole Rackley of Victoria; step-sons, Dwayne and wife Hattie Jo Machicek of Goliad, Kenny and wife Peggy Machicek of Miami, Fla., Leroy and wife Becky Machicek of Gastonia, N.C., and E. J. and wife Laura Machicek of Richmond; step- daughter, Janet and husband Warren Gohlke of Goliad; eleven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Krenek of Victoria, Angeline Kapusta of Corpus Christi, and Lillian Steffek of Houston; and brothers, Louis Petru of Corpus Christi, Edward Petru of Corpus Christi, and Henry Petru of Austin.

       

      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Jurena Petru; daughter-in-law, Karen Wood Petru; brother, Joe Petru; sister, Cecelia Holland; and granddaughter, Donna Machicek Nedeau.

       

      Visitation will be held 3 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Ralph Baidoo officiating. Full Military honors will follow 2 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria under the direction of the Victoria Veterans Council of Victoria.

      Service under the direction of Goliad Funeral Home, Goliad, 414 W. Ward St., 361 645-1104.
