obit: Ladis Marek
Ladis Marek, Jr. 82, of Cameron died Saturday, August 25, in a Cameron nursing facility. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 29 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Emilian Foltyn and Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
Mr. Marek was born September 28, 1929 in Cameron to Ladis and Viola (Marek) Marek. He was a graduate of C.H. Yoe High School, attended Southwestern University in Georgetown and the University of Texas. He received his Master’s Degree from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as staff sergeant. He married Theodora Henderson. He retired from Citizens National Bank as a trust officer after 27-1/2 years of service and then worked at the First National Bank, serving as vice-president and trust officer and was on the Board of Directors. He was church organist for both the First Presbyterian Church and St. Monica’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past member of V.F.W. Ben Milam Post 2010, Karem Shrine, Scottish Rite,and San Andres Lodge AF & AM #170. His daughter, Anne Marie Marek preceded him in death in 1981. Survivors include:
