obit: Dorothy Mae Krenek Rachunek

Dorothy Mae Rachunek, age 85, of Wharton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at a Houston hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 26, 1926, in Hungerford, a daughter of the late Joseph Krenek and Sophie Macha Krenek.
Dorothy was reared in the Hungerford area. On Oct. 21, 1947, Dorothy married Frank Paul Rachunek in Hungerford. She was a homemaker and owner of Rachunek’s Nursery for more than 50 years. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Hungerford, Catholic Daughters of Americas and KJZT. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a wonderful zest for life. She enjoyed working tirelessly with her flowers and cooking delicious desserts and meals for her family, especially during holidays. A favorite past time was playing scratch off lottery tickets and watching Wheel of Fortune. Dorothy and Frank enjoyed sight seeing and traveling throughout Europe and visiting relatives in the Czech Republic. One memorable highlight of one of those visits was shaking the hand of Pope Benedict XVI while at the Vatican.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Krenek; sister, Bessie Hubenak; and son-in-law, Alan White.
Visitation was held Tuesday evening, Sept. 27, 2011, at Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry C. Rachunek and Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Internment will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Frank Rachunek of Wharton; daughter, Clarice McLarty and husband Bob of Cypress; son, Allen Rachunek and wife Michele of Wharton; sister, Vi Varner and husband Russ of Houston; and grandchildren, Bryan White and wife Terry of El Campo, Craig White of Cedar Park, Kyle White and wife Amanda of Cypress, Todd White of Cypress, John Rachunek and wife Jackie of El Campo and Melissa Zielonka and husband Chris of Fowlerton. There are 16 great-grandchildren who also survive.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Bryan, Craig, Kyle, Todd, John and Melissa.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Doyle Varner, Edmund Hubenak, David Hubenak, Michael Hubenak, Gene Hubenak, Robert Hubenak, Donald Krenek and Ronald Krenek.
