Doris A. (Berckenhoff) Berger, 71, of Clute, formerly of Schulenburg, died on Friday, Dec. 9 at Brazosport Hospital of an aneurysm.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1940 in Shiner to Rudolph and Rosie (Kalisek) Berckenhoff. She is a 1958 graduate of Schulenburg High School.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Sarver and husband Stan of Lago Vista, and Leslie Twedell of Dayton; Robert Twedell of Clute, father of Sandy and Leslie; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Albert Berckenhoff and wife Agnes of St. John, and George Berckenhoff and wife Eileen of Freyburg; a sister-in-law, Irene Berckenhoff of St. John; and five sisters, Alice Narendorf and husband Ludwig of San Antonio, Rita Pavlik and husband Bennie of Schulenburg, Anita Kalinec and husband Wilbert of Moravia, Lillian Pavlik of Schulenburg, and Pat Matula and husband Dennis of Shiner; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Eugene, William and Rudolph Berckenhoff; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Pavlik; and great-nephew, Ethan Koehn.
Her wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services were held on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Eddie Winkler officiating. Reading about Mrs. Berger's life was niece Debbie Spooner. Scripture readings were by niece Ann Florus. On Saturday, Jan. 7, with Rev. Winkler officiating, a graveside service was held at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in St. John.
