Nell Jones Haba, 74, passed quietly in her sleep on
May 29, 2011, after a lengthy illness. She was comforted in her final moments by
her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Haba and assured of the love of her sons Randall, a
nationally noted voice over artist, Lawrence, a corporate computer engineer, and
Geoffrey, an internationally known drummer, and her granddaughter, Phoebe,a high
school student in Austin, Texas.
She was born on December 3, 1936 in Georgiana,
Alabama to Vernie and Lula Jones. Nell was one of seven siblings, four of whom
have preceded her in death:Edwin Jones, Alice Taunton, Louise Hannah, and
Juanita Jones. She attended schools in Alabama and Florida and remained
committed to learning her entire life, as evidenced by her expertise in a wide
array of subjects.
Nell traveled the world as an Air Force wife with
tours in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, Italy, and Hawaii (where
she started her penchant for collecting anything oriental). In 1986, she and her
husband settled in Austin, Texas where Jerry took command of the 602nd Tactical
Air Control Group at Bergstrom AFB. They retired from the USAF in 1989.
Nell also worked at the IRS in Austin for ten years,
retiring in 1997. She loved crossword puzzles and her vivid vocal recollections
of her family and the places she visited will be greatly missed!
In addition to her husband, her three sons, and her
granddaughter, she is survived by her sister, Jean Eastcott of Lakewood,
California, her brother, Wayne Jones of Montgomery, Alabama, and numerous
nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her very much.
Services will be held in a private ceremony.
