HALLETTSVILLE Friday, December 17th, 2004 Marie Voelkel Holy, 86, of Hallettsville, Texas died December 15, 2004.

She was born on Appelt's Hill on April 1, 1918 to Otto and Leona Appelt Brogger, the oldest of four children. Marie was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas and the Women's Auxiliary - Veterans of Foreign Wars.

She enjoyed quilting, gardening, watching her soaps, listening to polka music, a really hot cup of coffee in the morning while reading her paper, a good hamburger, visiting with relatives at the annual Appelt Family Reunion, being independent, and most of all, spending time with her family and many friends.

Survivors include son Paul Voelkel and wife Theresa of Hallettsville; son Jim Voelkel and wife Cathy of Cuero; and daughter Linda Ward and husband Dave of Austin; four grandchildren, Kevin Voelkel and wife Cathy of Texarkana; Leslie Voelkel Campos and husband Paul of Yorktown; Kelly Voelkel of Austin; Jason Ward of Austin; four great grandsons, Justin, Stephen, Patrick and Jacob Voelkel of Texarkana; sister Ann Birkner of Hallettsville; and brother Otto Brogger Sr. of Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Arthur Voelkel and Alfred "Fritz" Holy; and brother James Brogger.

Visitation will start Noon, Saturday, December 18th with a rosary held at 6:30 p.m. at the Kubena Funeral Home Chapel in Hallettsville. Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on December 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, with Father John Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Marie was a caring, giving person - one of a kind - and will be missed by many.
