F orest Lakes resident John H. Halencak died after a long battle with cancer Thursday, July 21, 2011, at his home. He was 70. Mr.

Halencak was born to Fred and Carrie Halencak on March 29, 1941, on a farm outside Vernon, Texas. He was the youngest of eight children. His parents lived in Texas but were proud to be of Czech descent. Mr. Halencak graduated from Northside High School in Texas. His family said he was a standout athlete and also district president of Future Farmers of America.

In July 1960, he married Pamela Lyon in Vernon, and the couple had two children. The youngest, Jeffrey Scott Halencak, spent the last two years helping care for his father during his final illness. Mr. Halencak was proud of his career in the food industry, his family said. He worked as a coffee specialist and sales manager for Standard Brands in Dallas and Nestle, USA.

His final years were marked by enjoying the beauty of nature, hunting, fishing and sharing time with his friends, his family said. The Halencak family lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, for four years, Dallas for four years and Oklahoma for four years, then returned to Dallas for about 25 years until it finally fulfilled the dream of retiring to the Colorado mountains in 2000. The family home in Forest Lakes was their refuge, his wife said, and their many, many friends were extremely precious.

Mr. Halencak is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pamela Lyon Halencak, of Forest Lakes; son, Jeffrey Scott Halencak, of Forest Lakes; daughter, Michelle Halencak, of Garland, Texas; brother Fred Halencak of Vernon; sisters Mary Halencak Mayer of Cameron, Texas, Olga Halencak Helms of New Port Richey, Fla., and Elsie Halencak Matthews of Brandywine, Md.; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has occurred. Burial will take place at a later date in Vernon.
