      Mary Ann Adamek -

      VICTORIA Sunday, September 11, 2005

Mary Ann Adamek after a long and painful battle with cancer went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, September 9, 2005. She was 62 years old and was born on May 22, 1943 in Inez, Texas to the late Louis and Julia Jurena Eschenburg.

She lived most of her life here in Victoria and the past 18 wonderful years with her best friend and devoted husband Elmer Gene Adamek. She also left behind her sister, Evelyn Eschenburg Heibel of Victoria and her brother, Frank Eschenburg of Athens, Texas. She has four wonderful children and six beautiful grandchildren: Michael "Tiger" Barker and wife Angie Foltyn Barker, and sons Reid and Rody of Comfort, Texas; Richard Dean Barker and wife Donna Williams Barker, and daughter Payton of Adkins, Texas; Brian Adamek and wife Jaclyn Bludau Adamek of Victoria; and Traci Adamek Shadle and husband, Robert Shadle and children, Michelle, Tyler and Coltin of Victoria, Texas.

She loved her children and grandchildren and talked of them and their accomplishments often.

She is joining in Heaven her parents, her sister, Beatrice Eschenburg Hirschauser and her brother, Eugene Eschenburg.

For 32 combined years she has helped guide, mold, and educate children first in the Bay City Independent School District at Cherry Elementary and later in Victoria Independent School District at Dudley Elementary. She was a devout catholic and a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and member of the Altar Society. She was a lector and Eucharistic minister as well. She enjoyed sharing her faith with many in numerous prayer groups and also taught CCD for a short time. Even during her illness she found peace and strength in helping others. She volunteered her time to help others come to terms with their own struggles with cancer.

Her many hobbies include collecting angels with over 100 to her collection. Mary Ann also loved to dance with her husband and was the envy of many for their style and grace on the dance floor. Even during her long battle with cancer, they would still dance and were members of the DaCosta Polka and Waltz Club.

She will always be remembered for her strong faith, her will to live and fight her long hard battle, and her beautiful smile. She will be missed by so many.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Sunday, September 11, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, led by Deacon Jim Koenig. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, September 12, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Msgr. James Brunner, Rev. Dominic Antwi and Rev. Gabriel Tawiah officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
