      R. J. BATLA, B.M.C., U.S. NAVY, RETIRED

      Raymond James Batla, Chief Boatswain's Mate, U.S. Navy, Retired, lost his battle with lung cancer, April 25, 1996. Born on July 26, 1921, he reached the age of 74.

      He was stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. Kaneohe Bay Naval Air Station was struck by Japanese planes on the way to bomb Pearl Harbor.

      Survivors are his wife, Frances B. Batla; sons, Raymond J. Batla Jr., Walter J. Batla; daughter, Charmaine Richardson and husband Patrick; sister, Binnie Bones; sister-in-law, Anna Batla; and nieces and nephews.

      A private memorial service conducted by Reverend R. T. Lucks, U.S. Navy, Retired, will be held Sunday, April 28, 1996.

      Our family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the Robinson Creek Hospice and Diane Hayes, R.N., as well as Hill Country Care in Dripping Springs, for the gentle loving care they provided.
