      Obituary: Irene Petter Mendel
       
      Irene Ethel Mendel, 79, died on Monday, Nov. 7 (2011) shortly before noon from an accident that occurred on their farm. 
       
      The funeral was held at St.. John's Catholic Church on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10a.m., followed by interment in the church cemetery.  Officiating was Rev. John Peters, with Rev. Dan Scheel of Houston as concelebrant.  Pallbearers were Scott Henneke, Brett Henneke, Josh Mendel, Nolan Mendel and Colten Randall, grandsons; and Don Pennington, Dennis Schramek and Kevin Mendel, nephews. 
       
      Rosary was held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home, led by Elsie Farek.

      Born on Oct. 19, 1932 in Schulenburg, she was the daughter of Julius and Anita (Staha) Petter.  She attended Velehrad School.  Her marriage to Erwin Mendel took place on Oct. 14, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Praha.  She was a housewife and mother, and a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
      Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Dan Henneke of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sandra Mendel of Schulenburg, and Greg and Vivian Mendel of Smithville, and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 
       
      Preceding her in death were her parents.
      Schwanke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
