      Abstract The Banner Press Jan 20, 2000
      Funeral services for Alvin John Flentge, 86, of Nelsonville were
      held Jan 15 at St John Lutheran Church in Bellville with the Rev Willie
      Rotter officiating. Burial followed at National Cemetery near
      Nelsonville. He died Jan 11 in Bellville.
      He was born Jan 31, 1913 in Wesley, the son of Alvin and Hattie
      (Schultz) Flentge.
      He married Leona Peschel on Nov 25, 1937 at St John Lutheran Church
      in Bellville.
      He was raised in the Greenvine area and attended Greenvine Public
      School. He was baptized on July 27, 1913, confirmed April 1, 1928 at
      Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. He bought a blacksmith shop and
      dance hall in 1935 and started a blacksmith business in Nelsonville. He
      and his wife made their home of the dance hall, one room at a time.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Albert Jr,
      Harold and Edmond Flentge; sister, Ramona Bohannon; grandparents, Gus Sr
      and Dora Boelde Flentge and Freidrich and Emma Daegner Schultz;
      granddaughter, Kiley Michelle Flentge; brother-in-law, Melvin Bentke;
      and numerous other relatives.
      Survivors include his wife; 5 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Lavina &
      Travis Oevermann, Leonalee "Lee" Alexander, and Emilie "Emy" Brooks, all
      of Houston, Ellvina Loehr of Rosenberg, and Ona Lea and James Goodnight
      of Oak Hill; 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Alvinlee and Melvinlee
      Flentge, and Leon & Melissa Flentge, all of Nelsonville; a brother and
      sister-in-law, Willie & Laverne Flentge of Caldwell; sister, Christina
      Bentke of Independence; grandchildren, Sheryl Malinowski & husband Edwin
      Darrel Oevermann & wife Susan, James Oeverman & wife Karen, Deborah
      Smith, Susan Schuelke & husband Tommy, Patricia Novak & husband Ludy,
      John Loehr & wife Suzanne, Cynthia Tekyl & husband Jody, Vickie
      Funerburk & husband Keith, Brenda Williams, Robin Donaldson, Dee Ann
      Poormann & husband Steven, Brian Flentge & wife Jennifer, Jeanie, Misty,

      Bellville, and Verdine Shunka & husband Jode of Houston; numerous
      nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
      Pallbearers were grandsons Darrell and James Oevermann, John Loehr,
      Brian and Brent Flentge, Archie Bane Jr, Bobby Joe Alexander and Brandon
      and Shawn Brooks.
      Honorary Pallbearers were all his grandchildren and
      Funeral handled by Knesek Family Funeral Chapels of Bellville.
