obit: Edward Wayne Janota
- Edward Wayne Janota was born on October 25, 1933 in Gonzales County to Edward and Josephine Koliba Janota and passed away Sunday, December 7, 2009. He was raised in the Corpus Christi area from age 9. He attended Catholic Schools for 12 years graduating from Corpus Christi College Academy staffed by the Jesuit Fathers in 1952. After graduation he attended Texas A & M. in College Station for one semester, he then farmed with his uncle and godfather Ben Benes for a year before entering the military. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1956 doing his basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He then entered Air Missile Control at Ft. Lawton, Washington. After discharge in 1956, he served eight years in the Army Reserves and attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. His awards included the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and cable splicer for 36 years retiring in December 1992. He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 5090, KJT, KJZT, Czech Heritage Society of Texas Gonzales Chapter. Ed loved gardening and keeping a beautiful manicured lawn and playing dominos with his many friends.He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Peggy of Gonzales, three children Ronald Janota (Kelley) of Rockport, Donna Harkins (Bill) of Rockport, and William Janota (Jennifer) of Ingleside; Step-sons Gary Tepera (Janet) and James Tepera (Kay), twelve grandchildren: Nicholas & Jacob Payne, Jessica, Jordon, Dylan, & Paul Janota, Malise, Catherine, Michael, Kristen, Dustin, and Ryan Tepera, Brother, George Leroy Janota of Rockport; Half-brothers: Donald Janota and Kenneth Janota;Half-sisters: LaJoyce Parris, Peggy Beard and Shirley Janota, special girl-cousins Bernadine McCaleb, Margaret Hughes, and Betty Jo Mokry.A Rosary was held at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass was held at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales at 12 noon on Wednesday with Rev. Paul Raaz officiating. Graveside services and burial was at Taft Memorial Park in Taft, Texas at 4 p.m. with Rev. Randy Cain officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Emil Kocian, Jerry Pavliska, George Pesek, Kermit Thiele, Mike Darilek, and Dennis Brezina. Honorary Pallbearers were his grandsons Nicholas Payne, Jacob Payne, Jordon Janota, Dylan Janota, Paul Janota, Dustin Tepera, Michael Tepera, and Ryan Tepera.Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, St. James Altar Society, or charity of ones choice.The family will receive friends at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
