      HALLETTSVILLE -- A.J. Kallus, 98, of the Wied community and father of V.T. Kallus, agriculture instructor at Victoria College, died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday in a Shiner hospital.
       
      Mr. Kallus, born in 1868 in Frenstat P. Rodhostom in Czechoslovakia, came to Texas at the age of twelve and was a resident of the United States from that time except from 1885 to 1886 when he returned to his native country for a visit.
       
      He was the last charter member of the K.J.T., a Catholic fraternal insurance organization of which he served as president for 22 years and was later named honorary president.  He held numerous other offices in the organization.
       
      Mr. Kallus was a retired merchant and farmer and was also a former school teacher.  His wife, Mrs. Terinka Migl Kallus, died in 1955.  Four of their 13 children also preceded him in death.
       
      Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church near here with burial in the Wied Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home.
       
      A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
       
      Surviving, besides the son in Victoria, are seven daughters, Mrs. Bohdanka Pesek, Mrs. Filipka Mladenka and Mrs. Henrietta Pesek of Wied, Mrs. Annie Janak of hallettsville, Mrs. Johanna Zvesper of la Grange, Mrs. Elizabeth Netardus of Jourdanton and Mrs. Agnes Parma of Cameron; one other son, George Kallus of Hallettsville; 81 grandchildren; and 123 great grandchildren.
