Deceased Name: Marie Barbara (Klima) Brown

Marie Barbara (Klima) Brown, 98, of Lake Jackson died December 26, 2009, at Plantation Health Care Center.

Her funeral service is at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, with interment following in Restwood Memorial Park.

Visitation was Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lakewood.

Mrs. Brown was born December 7, 1911, in Winfield, Queens, New York City, to Frank Klima and Mary (Zraly) Klima. Frank immigrated to New York from Moravia at age 10 in 1892, with his parents and siblings. Mary Klima was born in New York to Bohemian immigrants. Marie graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1925. She worked in a bank in New York and then at Rockefeller Center doing the payroll.

Marie met her husband, John Henry (Johnny) Brown Jr. of Leesville, Louisiana, in 1940. They were married at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York on January 6, 1941. The couple honeymooned in Washington, D.C., visited Johnny's family in Leesville and set up housekeeping in Freeport, where John worked as a chemist for the Freeport Sulfur Company, transferring to Dow Chemical in 1942. John and Marie moved to Lake Jackson in 1962. They were members of Wesley First United Methodist Church in Clute.

Marie's many interests included saltwater fishing, antiquing, crocheting and cooking. She was an avid Houston Astros fan, attending many games in the Astrodome and Minute Maid Park.

John and Marie moved to the Plantation Villas retirement apartments in 1994. Marie resided at Plantation Health Care for the last three years.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; sister, Ella (Praus) Garsch; and brother, Frank Klima.

She is survived by her son, Robert Allan Brown and wife, Jane, of Barksdale, Texas; grandson, John Daniel Brown and wife, Jennifer, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth (Brown) Brandon and husband, Michael, of Tallahassee, Florida; and great-granddaughters, Margaret Rose (Maggie) Brandon, Hannah Marie Brown and Katherine Claire (Kate) Brandon.

The family prefers memorial gifts to Wesley First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
