Genevieve Matula McGuire, age 76, of Wharton, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following an extended illness.She was born on May 28, 1927, in Hungerford, the daughter of the late Julius C. Matula Sr. and Cecelia Sulak Matula.
Mrs. McGuire graduated from Wharton High School. She married Charles A. McGuire Jr. on May 19, 1951, in Wharton. She was a former resident of Beaumont and had lived in Wharton since 1983.She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Wharton Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf, mahjong and dominos.
Funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Saturday, March 20, 2004, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Interment will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include husband, Charles A. McGuire Jr. of Wharton; daughters and son-in-law, Patty and Paul Shannon of Wharton and Debbie McGuire of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. McGuire III and wife, Rebecca of LaPorte; sister, Bessie LaVictoire of Washington, N.C.; brother, Julius Matula Jr. of Wharton; and grandchildren, Chase McGuire, Jennifer McGuire and Preston Shannon.She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Matula.
Pallbearers will be Chase McGuire, Preston Shannon, Ricky Matula, Paul Shannon, Tommy Matula and David Lawrence.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Wharton Country Club Women's Golf Association.If desiring, memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 121, Hungerford, TX 77448 or your a charity of personal choice.
