EDWIN HERMAN KOCUREKYOAKUM - Edwin Herman Kocurek, age 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 1, 2010.Visitation will be from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. today at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating.Edwin was born Dec. 9, 1922 to Frank and Mary Majek Kocurek in Corpus Christi. Edwin served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1954. He served in the Pacific during WWII and again during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Salt Lake City among numerous other ships. After returning to Corpus Christi he pursued a career in the construction industry until 1984, at which time he retired with his wife to Yoakum. Edwin was passionate about his life, his family and friends and loved to hunt and fish. His sense of humor and general vibrance attracted others to him.
Survivors: his wife of 66 years, Margaret Miller Kocurek; his son, Morris Kocurek of Cotulla; his daughters, Veronica Nancarrow and husband Matthew of College Station and Loretta Tamm and husband Douglas of Yoakum; grandson, Christian Nancarrow of College Station; and a sister, Albina Herren of Dallas. Preceded in death by: parents, and a brother, Robert Kocurek.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Accolade Hospice. The online guest book may be signed at thielecooper.com.
