Brazosport Facts, The (Clute, TX) - June 3, 2006

      Deceased Name: Irma Novak Phillips

Irma Novak Phillips passed away at her residence on Thursday, June 1, 2006. With Deacon Jimmy Smith officiating, private services were held at Brazoria Cemetery.

Irma was born February 14, 1913, in Shiner, Texas. Except for WW II years, she spent all of her life in Brazoria County. Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Anton J. and Julia Novak; sister, Edith and husband, Clay P. Kern, of Danbury; brothers, Albert A. Novak and wife, Marion, of Wharton; infant twin sons, Tony E. and Edward E. Phillips; and her beloved husband of over 47 years, Edwin E. Phillips.

Both Irma and Ed devoted their time to many community services of which the Brazoria Volunteer Fire Department was their primary concern, always striving to help their fellow citizens in time of need. After 33 years, they sold their hardware store in Brazoria and spent nearly eight years traveling by motor home seeing the beautiful U.S.A. and Canada but always felt good to get back home.

After her husband's death in October of 1983, Irma spent her remaining years in their home on the San Bernard River.

She is survived by five nephews and a niece and their children. Nephews being David Kern, Tony Kern, James Kern and Guy Paul and niece, Betty Schaefer. Irma is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Nephews David Kern, James C. Kern, Tony P. Kern, Tony P. Kern Jr., Guy Paul and Buddy Schaefer served as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, Irma requested that memorials be made to the Brazoria Volunteer Fire Department or His Love Counseling Services in Lake Jackson.

Arrangements were under the direction of Baker Funeral Home,
