Funeral services for Ella M. Vajdak, 92, a longtime resident of Snook, and a former resident of Houston, are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Snook Brethren Church in Snook with Rev. Henry Beseda and Rev. Lawrence Junek officiating. Interment will follow in Snook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 and from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mrs. Vajdak died Wednesday at Magnified Health & Rehab in College Station.
Ella was born December 7, 1917 in the Merle Community of Burleson County, the daughter of John and Marie (Nedbalek) Junek. She was baptized and confirmed in the Snook Brethren Church. She went to school in Snook and was married to Walter Vajdak in October of l940. She was a homemaker and was a member of Houston Brethren Church in Houston and was a member of the Houston Christian Sisters. She was also a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #9 of Snook.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1973; two sisters, Lydia Sontag and Milady Jakubik; and three brothers, Rudolph Junek, Clint Junek, and Robert Junek.Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Rebecca Vajdak of Las Vegas, Nevada and three step-grandchildren, Rachel Mohr of College Station, Madeline Mohr of Houston, and Cameron Mohr of Las Vegas, Nevada.Family members have requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Houston Brethren Church, 6207 North Main, Houston, Texas 77009.Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
