Last Saturday morning the people of the county were shocked when the news went out that John Stefka was dead, after a brief illness with pneumonia, at his home at Sunny Side, age 63 years and 6 months.

In Mr. Stefka's death the county loses one of its most useful citizens, he was always unselfish in his service to his people, to his county and his state; being always ready to give his time and any other aid to further any move that would better his people.  Being ever ready to answer the call of a neighbor and generously give any assistance he could.

The high esteem in which he was held by his fellowmen, was reflected in the concourse of friends that attended his funeral, from over the state, they came from Austin, Houston, Edna; Ft. Bend and Austin counties, to pay their last tribute to their dead friend.

The decedent leaves a widow, several children and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

A number of citizens of our city attended the funeral of John Stefka at Monaville last Sunday.
