      Alsace Lorraine Kallina Steffek, of Needville, Texas, was born December 14, 1918, in Garwood, Texas, and passed away May 25, 2005, in a Houston hospital.

      Alsace is survived by her husband, John August Steffek, and sons, Jason Logan Steffek and John Charles Steffek and his wife, Mary Ann. She is also survived by brother, Anthony Kallina and his wife, Bernice; sister, Karol Kallina; grandchildren, Haden Anthony Steffek and John Logan Steffek.

      Alsace graduated from Sam Houston State, one of the first females, pursued a career in medical technology and remained a lifelong scientist and scholar, as well as a dedicated servant to family and all those whose life she touched. We will miss her deeply, especially her beautiful mind.

      Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2005, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg, Texas.

      A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley, Texas. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Alsace to the Texas Heart Institute, c/o Maureen Solis, P.O. Box 20345, MC 3-117, Houston, Texas 77225-0345.

      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd., Rosenberg. (281) 341-8800.
