Funeral services for Frank J. Charanza, 73, year old Burleson County farmer of 200 South Temple St., Caldwell, were held at 8:40 a.m. Monday, February 25th followed by Solemn Requiem High Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9:00 with Rev V.A. Svrcek, the Rev George Tydlacka and Rev Hubert L. Baumann of San Antonio officiating. Altar boys who assisted were Michael and Robert Kocurek and James Cepear.
Rosary was recited in the Harvey Schiller Chapel at 7:30 pm Sunday February 24 with Frenstat KJT lodge in charge.
Mr. Charanza passed away in the local hospital at 11:25 pm Friday February 22 after an extended illness.
Born in Burleson County on November 18, 1889 he was the son of Joseph and Johanna Machava Charanza. On November 18, 1913 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Knesek in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat.
In addition to farming his own land Mr. Charanza enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working with flowers. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell and the KJT Lodge of Frenstat.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Knesek- Charanza of Caldwell, four sons, Joe F., Edwin L., Benedict and Clarence Charanza of Caldwell; three daughters Mrs. Joe (Lydia) Schumaker, of Caldwell, Mrs. F. W. Margaret Baumann of Victoria, Mrs. Edwin (Vernice) Manthei of Bryan; 19 grandchildren and 5 great grand children; a brother , John C. of Caldwell three sisters, Mrs. John C. (Julia) Marek, and Mrs. Frank (Annie) Popek of Caldwell and Mrs. Edwin (Mollie) Sobotik of Houston.
He was preceded in death by a daughter who died in infancy, two brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers included Ben Popek, Edward J. Marek, Henry F. Charanza, James E. Marek, Earl T. Reneau Jr., Milton E. Charanza, Lawrence J. Charanza and Anton Knesek. Interment was in St Mary's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Harvey -Schiller Funeral Directors.
