ELIZABETH HELEN HALFMANN URBANEK Publication Date: June 20, 2006 ROWENA Elizabeth Helen Halfmann Urbanek, 90, of Rowena joined her beloved husband, Bill, with the Lord on Sunday, June 18, 2006.
Elizabeth was born June 16, 1916 ,in Falls County, the oldest child of Otto J. and Minnie Greger Halfmann. She married William Frances Urbanek on Jan. 3, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas.
They lived in the Olfen and Rowena community all their married life, where they raised three daughters and a son. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger.
Elizabeth was a homemaker and helped her husband with farming and ranching.
Elizabeth enjoyed numerous activities, including playing cards, dominos and bingo, as well as embroidery, crocheting, tatting, quilting and sewing. She was a member of St. Anns Altar Society and Christians Mothers, where she served as chairman of caring for the altars for many years.
She was a member of court of Lady of Grace No.1734 Catholic Daughters and helped develop the CDA chapter in Rowena, and held the office of First Regent and others through the years.
Elizabeth was very active in the Rowena Family Community Education Club in which she was not only a valuable leader, but held many offices, including Runnels Co. FCE Council Secretary.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, William Francis Urbanek; by her parents, Otto J. and Minnie Greger Halfmann; and four brothers, Raymond, Edward, Herbert and Leonard Halfmann.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Frenzel and husband Robert, Beatrice Gregory and husband Ricky, William David Urbanek and wife Linda, and Susan Bohnenberger and husband Glenn.
The love of her life were here grandchildren, Debbie Halfmann and husband Greg, Sherri Salinas and husband Tony, Kathy Henshaw and husband Steve, Jeanne Barnes and husband Kye, Kristie Raymond and husband Rob, Tanya Wilson and husband Obie, Joe David Urbanek, John Jay Urbanek, Stacey Branham and wife AnnMarie, Mark Bohnenberger and wife Lona, Whitney Rae Bohnenberger and Kristine Gregory; and was so very proud of her 16 great-grandchildren, Sara, Sadie and Scott Halfmann, Christopher and LaTasha Lee, Halie and Holton and Devin Henshaw, Collin, Catilyn and Cameron Barnes, Isabell Raymond, Madison Hahn, Lea and Kalie Bohnenberger, and Shay WestLee; and one great-great grandchild, Abigail Elizabeth. Elizabeth is also survived by a brother Harold Halfmann and wife Pearl, sisters-in-law, Pauline Halfmann and husband Quintin, Lena Halfmann and Geneieve Halfmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family request that memorials be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery fund.
We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Hospice, which was very caring and helpful in Mamas final days.
