- HALLETTSVILLE - Helen Rose (Galetka) Zak, 68, died March 20, 2009. She was born on Jan. 17, 1941 to Charles and Antonia Trlica Galetka in Hallettsville. She married Johnnie A. Zak on Oct. 29, 1960; they were blessed with four children, Arlene, Kathy, Jean, and John.Helen decorated cakes for 30 years, and was a seamstress for several years. She enjoyed deer hunting and playing Tarock, tennis, cards, and dominoes with friends and family. She was a member of and Sunday school teacher for Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church. She was also a member of SPJST Lodge No. 4, Christian Sisters, and secretary-treasurer for R.V.O.S. Lodge No. 34 of Vsetin.Helen is survived by: her husband, Johnnie; daughters, Kathleen Smolik and husband Melvin of Hallettsville and Jean Wick and husband Edward of Weimar; son, John Zak and wife Anita of Hallettsville; grandchildren, Tucker, Trevor, and Tracie Smolik; Samantha, Molly, and Amy Jo Wick; Claire and Emma Zak; and sister, Dorothy (Galetka) Henneke of Hallettsville.Helen was preceded in death by: her parents, Charles and Antonia Galetka; daughter, Arlene (Zak) Koehn; brother, Alex Galetka; and sister, Margaret Haase.Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville.The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church, the Rev. Mark Labaj officiating. Burial will be at Vsetin Cemetery.Pallbearers: Trevor Smolik, Tucker Smolik, Gilbert Henneke, David Zak, Tynan Zak, and Cameron Zak.Memorials: Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church or Hospice of South Texas.
