      JOSEPH JOHN MATULA, 71, of Pearland passed away on November 9, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a devoted, loving and caring man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
       
      Joe served his country in the US Air Force for 26 1/2 years and worked for Houston Helicopters.
       
      He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Matula; brother, Alphonse Matula; step brother, Jerome Michna, and his wife Katie Matula.
       
      Joe is survived by his daughters, Barbara R. Gass and husband Frank, Katherine R. Ansley and husband Wayne, Josette J. Matula; sisters, Hedy Martin, Barbara Dent; brother, Cyril M. Matula, Jr.; step sister, Justine Keprta; grandchildren, Joseph J.M. Gass, Charles F. Gass, Jr., Steven A. Gass, Danika Ansley; special friend Jean Funderburk; numerous other loving family and friends.
       
      A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 15, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at the Houston National Cemetery.
       
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his names to DAV Chapter 195, P.O. Box 2173 Pearland, TX 77584 or Christus Hospice of St. Joseph, 1404 St. Joseph Parkway Houston, TX 77002.
