Milton H. Mazel, age 83, of Wharton, died Tuesday Aug. 26, 2003, in Wharton.He was born on May 13, 1920, in Fayetteville, the son of the late Frank Mazel and Hildegard Cook Mazel.
Mr. Mazel was a 75-year resident of Wharton and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army.He married Louise Bennetsen on Sept. 26, 1946, in Wharton. Mr. Mazel was employed as a ranch foreman with the Gifford Estate for 34 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the Wharton American Legion and VFW.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Kersten officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Wharton American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Mazel of Wharton; sons, James Milton Mazel and wife, DeAnn of Wharton, Charles H. Mazel and wife, Libby of El Campo and Dennis Mazel and wife, Anne of Magnet; sister, Eleanora Krause of Wharton; grandchildren, Jennifer Socha, Shannon Barnes, Katie Mazel and Mindy Mazel; great grandson, Ryan Barnes.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Legler and brother, Sylvester Mazel.Pallbearers were George Legler, David Mazel, Donald Rejsek, George Barnes, Randy Socha and Will Mazel.
Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Evans, Pete Bennetsen, Boots Hill, Rudy Kuba and Dr. James Tran.
