      April 22, 1925 — March 22, 2003

      Services for Andrew John Vavra Sr., 77, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

      Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

      Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

      Mr. Vavra died Saturday at his home.

      He was born in Burleson County and lived in Bryan many years. He was a retired truck driver and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the SPJST, where he was district director for 10 years, and was president of the New Tabor SPJST. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW.

      Survivors include his wife, Lola Vavra of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew J. Jr. and Pat Vavra and Alvin and Sally Vavra, all of Houston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Tom Miller of College Station and Florence Wilder of Bryan; a sister, Lillian Barta of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
