PHILIP JANAKSWEET HOME - Philip Janak, age 79, died on Sunday, May 3, 2009.He was born on Oct. 3, 1929, in Wied, Lavaca County, to Lukas Janak Sr. and Adela Kanak Janak. He was a fireman with the City of Victoria for 29 years and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a very active member of over 50 years with American Legion Post No. 571 Sweet Home, and a 75-year member of KJT.Survivors: wife, Lillie Chaloupka Janak of Sweet Home; step-sons, Marcus Chaloupka and wife Brenda of College Station, Dennis Chaloupka and wife Joyce of Hallettsville, and Melvin Chaloupka and wife Doris of Victoria; brother, Lukas Janak Jr. and wife Helen of Yoakum; sisters, Genevieve Matusek of Yoakum, Bernice Kubos of Houston, and Magdalene Laqua and husband Eugene of Sweet Home; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents; stepson, Patrick Chaloupka; and brother, Fred Janak.A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Chaloupka, Chris Roznovsky, Dan Stasny, Eugene Laqua, Fred Ohnheiser, and Emil Kloesel.
